Our Team

The Newland Group President, David Kingsland, has assembled a small team of highly skilled professionals who share his passion for creating innovative internet solutions, are dedicated to performance excellence and committed to customer service. The team works collaboratively, contributing their superior talents, to ensure that client’s expectations are consistently met and most often exceeded. Our team often becomes an extension of the client’s team, understanding their business goals and providing insight and leadership in the development of strategy as well as technical solutions.

David Kingsland, President
Convinced that the “internet means business” David Kingsland founded the company in 1995 with a vision to become recognized as internet experts dedicated to enhancing the relationship between organizations and their customers.

David graduated in 1973 from the University of Essex (UK) with an honours degree in Electronic Engineering. A successful career in television began in the UK and continued when David and his wife immigrated to Canada in 1979. In the mid 80’s David transferred his skills to the data communications industry. In 1986 he joined McDonnell Douglas to start up their Canadian data communications business. By 1993 annual revenues were 11 million dollars and David was leading a staff of twelve. When British Telecom purchased the company, David became General Manager and he remained in the driver’s seat when the company was acquired by US phone giant MCI and renamed MCI Canada.

Under David’s leadership, The Newland Group has grown consistently, serving a variety of organizations in Canada and the United States. In 1999, The Newland Group began what has proved to be a long-term relationship with a number of CAA and AAA clubs. The Newland Group has been pivotal in the phased evolution of e-commerce capability on many CAA and AAA sites. With David Kingsland’s unique understanding of CAA/AAA’s internet strategy, infrastructures and business objectives, the Newland Group has become a valuable resource as clubs continue to evolve and implement their internet strategy.

David is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, and Vice President of the British Canadian Chamber of Trade & Commerce. Since 1988 he has taught a telecommunications course as part of the Master of Information Science degree program at the University of Toronto.

Design
Roberto Acosta

Roberto has a Bachelor degree in Architecture from the Universidad Central de Venezuela as well as two Fine Arts degrees (Industrial Design 1992, and Computer Graphics design 1995) from the Rochester Institute of Technology. His first profession was as an architect and he designed an supervised a number of housing and recreational projects before his interests drew him to industrial design, then broadcast design and eventually computer animation and web graphics. Roberto has been with The Newland Group since 1996 when he designed the company’s first web site. Roberto has taught web site design for the University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies, Humber College and for Dynamic Graphics Educational Foundation. He is skilled in 2D and 3D animation, multimedia design, Lingo programming, human interface design,raster/vector illustration,graphic design and digital photocomposition. He is also fluent in several computer languages, operating systems, and a variety of applications used by professionals in web development and design.

Creative Director
Lena Cherniavskaya

Lena earned her Masters degree in Industrial Art Design from Belarus State Art University and spent the next ten years as an Industrial Art Designer developing both medical equipment and consumers goods as well as the collateral marketing materials for her designs.
Over time Lena shifted her focus to computer graphics and 3D animation design and developed an impressive portfolio of television commercials, program inserts, brochures, print advertising and web sites
Lena joined The Newland Group as a graphic artist in 1999 when she came to Canada. Since then she has worked on virtually every web site we have created, often acting as lead designer.

Programming
Liuhuan Lu

Liuhuan graduated from York University with a Bachelor of Science, Computer Science and was a member of the Dean's Honour Roll, Member of the Chair's Honour Roll for excellence in Mathematics & Statistics. He also has a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Design from the Changchun Institute of Optics & Fine Mechanics, China. His most recent work experience includes working with Hankook Tire Canada Corp as a web developer. His work has included but is not limited to, developing an interactive, multi-page web site utilizing numerous programming languages and graphic applications.
Liuhuan came to The Newland Group as our newest addition in the early part of 2006.

Client Care Manager
Kailin Mackenzie
Kailin studied Business Marketing at Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and began her career in consumer promotions. Since her arrival at The Newland Group in 2007, Kailin has developed positive relations with our clients. With her strong organizational skills, personal commitment to customer service, and thorough understanding of client needs for access and information, Kailin acts in the dual capacity of project manager as well as Customer Care Manager. This role makes Kailin one of the primary contacts at the Newland Group so she is introduced to clients right from the beginning of the business relationship. Kailin also helps manage the British Canadian Chamber of Commerce website and organizes many of BCCTC's social events www.bcctc.ca.


Editorial Services
Pauline Mitchell
A former broadcast journalist and executive in news and information programming, Pauline Mitchell knows how to identify an audience and communicate appropriately with that audience. Pauline has more than 10 years experience writing customer communications material including web content, e-newsletters, magazine articles, advertising copy and direct mail messages for both business and not-for-profit organizations. In 2001, as Communications Manager for CAA South Central Ontario (Hamilton) Pauline Mitchell collected a AAA Marq Award for Internet Marketing.
Pauline provides Newland clients with editorial advice, web content, e-newsletter writing, research, and/or editing services.
