CAA South Central Ontario ID Alerts

Client: CAA South Central Ontario
Date: Fall 2007

Business Need

There were multiple requirements for this project. The Club wanted to link its website to a Partner website so that members visiting the club site could sign up for identity theft protection on the Partner site. Since some members would prefer to make their purchase by phone, it was necessary to create a tool for the Partner’s call centre staff to interrogate Axis to confirm the membership status. In addition, the user experience had to be seamless and all data to and from the Partner had to be encrypted to ensure the security of member information.

Challenges

The price for identity theft protection depended on whether the purchaser was a Basic, Plus or Premier member. The club wanted to up-sell Basic and Plus members to a higher level and integrate the upgrade process with the partner sale in one seamless member transaction. In addition, the club wanted to handle members with bad address flags by sending them to the partner site via an address correction page. And finally, each member could only apply for one ID protection product.

Solution

Because of the complexity of the project, Newland managed the entire project including work done by the Partner. Membership pages were enhanced to interconnect them with Partner pages. Membership level data was passed to the Partner site so they could offer the correct rate/membership category and, up-sell as appropriate. If the Member agreed, they were passed back to the club site to upgrade then passed back to the Partner site to purchase the ID protection.

Completed transactions were reported back to a Club database, which was checked before each transaction to prevent multiple sales to the same member. If a multiple sale was attempted, members were encouraged to add an associate who could buy his or her own ID protection.

Technology & Tools

To satisfy all the requirements Newland used HP servers running Red Hat Linux, MySQL databases, Java, JSP and Blowfish encryption.
